EU investments an 'opportunity' to expand Jordan's industrial base, boost exports: JCI

Amman, Sept. 19 (Petra) –Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) said the Jordan-EU Investment Conference 2026 marks a "significant milestone" in transitioning economic relations between Jordan and the European Union from a framework of traditional trade cooperation to deeper investment and production partnerships.

The JCI added that this shift aims to bolster manufacturing, technology transfer, value addition, employment, and exports.

In a statement Saturday, the chamber highlighted the conference's importance for the Kingdom's industrial sector, which provides a "platform to showcase the capabilities and potential Jordanian industry has achieved." The JCI noted that this sector also serves to connect European investors and companies with Jordan's industrial opportunities, which would attract "high-quality" investments, establish joint ventures, transfer technology and expertise, develop production and supply chains, and enhance the integration of Jordanian industry into European value chains.

The conference is scheduled to take place on November 19 at the Dead Sea under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will participate in the event, which falls within the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Jordan and the EU launched early last year.

In late January 2025, His Majesty and the European Commission President witnessed the signing ceremony of the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Jordan and the EU in Brussels.

At that time, the EU announced a financial and investment aid package worth €3 billion for the 2025–2027 period to support the agreement's goals.

The conference will showcase "promising" investment opportunities in the Kingdom and explore prospects for partnership and cooperation across several priority sectors, mainly renewable energy, clean technologies, the digital economy, industry, logistics, and infrastructure.

Data on European investments registered with the chamber indicates the presence of 50 European investment enterprises in Jordan with a total registered capital of $500 million.

These investments are concentrated primarily in the engineering, electrical, and information technology sectors, which account for 69.7 percent of total European investment capital.

According to the data, the mining sector ranked second with a 14.7% share, followed by the food, agricultural, and livestock sectors at 13.3%. The remaining percentage is distributed among the packaging, chemical, construction, leather, and plastics sectors.

Regarding trade, the statistics showed an increase in Jordanian exports to EU countries during the first half of this year to approximately JD318 million, up from JD233 million during the same period last year, representing a growth of 36.5%.

Meanwhile, imports from the EU bloc declined to JD1.419 billion, down from JD1.576 billion during the same period of the previous year.
